Triumph Foods has proposed building a plant on land newly annexed by East Moline along Barstow Road, saying the project would create about 1,000 new jobs for the Quad-City area. After Silvis said no to the enterprise zone, the company has been reconsidering the site.

About 50 people heard two speakers from North Carolina discuss negative experiences with the hog industry.

Rick Dove, former commercial fisherman who is affiliated with the Waterkeeper Alliance, spent more than an hour describing how river and air pollution attributed to hog production killed fish, trees and made humans sick. The alliance connects and supports local programs that strive to ensure waterways remain uncontaminated.
