Tests Reveal Anthrax In Pork In Semipalatinsk

RUSSIA - Tests have revealed anthrax in a 93.8 tonne consignment of pork in Semipalatinsk in the Eastern Kazakhstan Region, reports Interfax.

"The entire consignment was seized by the National Security Committee's local department on April 12. On April 22 the Semipalatinsk veterinary control department announced that anthrax germs had been detected in the pork," the Kazakh Emergency Situations Ministry told Interfax on Sunday.

"The pork has been placed in a temporary storage facility. No reports have been received suggesting that any amount of pork from this consignment has been sold. Quarantine measures are being taken," the ministry said.
