It is very rare for a veterinarian to be honoured with this prestigious award for his dedication and service to the British Pig Industry by the British Pig Executive.

We are delighted that a member and former President of the Pig Veterinary Society, has achieved this recognition, which we feel is very much deserved.

Judge's Citation

'Stan Done has achieved world wide recognition in the veterinary profession as an expert on pig disease, especially pig pathology. His breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding of pig disease and pathology is unique in the UK. Since qualifying as a veterinary surgeon in 1968, Stan has been a prolific researcher and author, publishing more than 100 scientific papers. He is also chief scientific editor of The Pig Journal. His work on respiratory disease, the PRRS virus, swine influenza and the early descriptions of PDNS and PMWS have been particularly influential. In 2000, he was appointed visiting professor of Veterinary Pathology at Glasgow University and since 2002 he has been senior veterinary investigation officer at the Veterinary Laboratories Agency in Thirsk.

Stan has always been happy to pass on his extensive knowledge to students, veterinary surgeons and all in the industry. During a long and distinguished career he has made a significant contribution to the British pig industry as a teacher, mentor, advisor and investigator.'
