BioPlus®2B obtains final EU registration for grower and finisher pigs
EU - Chr. Hansen A/S has obtained final EU approval and registration of BioPlus®2B for the category grower and finisher pigs.
Following 10 years of product development BioPlus®2B is now approved for all pig categories without time limit. The final approval confirms that when used in feed for piglets, grower and finisher pigs and sows, BioPlus®2B is a proven and save alternative to antibiotic growth promoters.
To obtain registration, the EU requires three separate efficacy trials showing statistical significance at the 5% level in each animal category. The EU-approval for BioPlus®2B has been awarded based on documentation showing the efficacy of the product when added to the feed for grower and finisher pigs.
Trials with more that 10,000 pigs
The dossiers which lead to the approvals for all pig categories have incorporated trials using a total of about 10,000 pigs.
"Pigs receiving BioPlus®2B have a better feed intake and food utilization and thus gain more weight, which result in a considerable economic benefit for the pig producers," says Trine Hastrup, Marketing Director. She continues:
"Obtaining the final approvals well before expiry of the provisional approval is what distinguishes us from competitors and assures our customers that BioPlus®2B is fully supported by Chr. Hansen. These approvals strengthen our position in markets outside Europe as well as in North America, South America and Asia – notwithstanding that antibiotic growth promoters are still common on these markets."
BioPlus®2B contains two living and naturally occurring probiotic bacteria, which have a beneficial effect on the microbial balance in the intestinal tract of farm animals.
