Rochelle ethanol venture breaks ground

ILLNOIS - The vice president of a Rochelle ethanol venture hopes the Northern Illinois community will become a U.S. biofuels hub as renewable fuels demand builds. Illinois River Energy (IRE) LLC last week broke ground on a 50-million-gallon-per-year ethanol facility slated to begin production in January 2006. The plant will be located on an 80-acre site south of Rochelle, on a short-line with two major rail connections and near two interstate highways.
