Research Is The Way Forward
UK - Targeted research is the way forward for the British pig industry to improve competitiveness but that research MUST benefit producers directly.
The British Pig Executive is appealing to producers for their help in making sure scientific work is not only relevant but also can be applied practically on a working pig farm.
An interactive survey is being conducted on the web to determine exactly what stops some people applying the results of research to their own enterprises, even if it can save them money.
BPEX will use the results to find ways of overcoming those barriers so all producers can benefit. Those who take part will be able to see the results which will be automatically updated as more people take part.
The survey is being carried out as part of the BPEX-commissioned Research and Development Review.
BPEX Chief Executive Mick Sloyan said: "This is a great chance for pig producers to get directly involved in something which will benefit them.
"I would urge all producers to spare just a few minutes to complete this important on-line survey.
"Improving the take-up of research was one of the major recommendations from the first stage of the R&D Review and that is now being tackled.
"There is still much more work to be done from the review in framing options for the future which will then be the subject of extensive industry consultation."
