Hog exports slightly up
BRAZIL - Despite the suspension on the exports of hog meat from Santa Catarina state to Russia, the Brazilian meat products companies shipped 39,798 m tons last January, slightly higher than the 36,233 m tons shipped in December 2002.

However, the hog meat falling price in the international market led the companies to face losses: US$36.949mil in January 2003 against the US$40.752mil in last December.
Russia acquired 26,768 m tons of hog from other Brazilian states. Meanwhile, Argentina purchased 2,568 m tons in January.
