African Swine Fever Hits Farmed Pigs in Latvia

LATVIA - Twenty one new outbreaks of African Swine Fever have been confirmed in Latvia, including an outbreak affecting domestic pigs.

The outbreaks affected 32 wild boar, of which 25 died from the disease and seven were destroyed.

There were also 11 cases in pigs, from a susceptible population of 18 pigs in a backyard herd. The backyard holding which tested positive was found within a restricted area established in response to the African Swine Fever outbreaks.

Two of the infected pigs died, and the other 16 pigs were destroyed.
