The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received an immediate notification on Friday, 31 January. The outbreak reportedly first occurred on 6 January.

Direct immunofluorescence (DIF) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were carried out at the Lugansk Regional State Laboratory of Veterinary Medicine on 31 January. Both tests resulted positive.

According to the report, a total of 26 pigs were found susceptible, out of which five cases as well as deaths were reported. No animals were destroyed and/or slaughtered.

Control of wildlife reservoirs, quarantine, movement control inside the country, screening and zoning are some of the control measures that have been applied to control the situation.

The susceptible or affected pigs have received no vaccination and there has also been no treatment of affected animals.

The source of the outbreak has not yet been determined.
