OIE: Foot and Mouth Disease Reported in East China
CHINA - Laboratory tests carried out at the Lanzhou Veterinary Institute have confirmed a foot and mouth disease (FMD) outbreak in the Dalian region. On November 24, a pig farm in Puwan New District in Dalian was confirmed as having FMD. The source of the infection is unknown.
So far, only pigs have been affected by the outbreak, which has caused 43 deaths in a swine herd. The morbidity and mortality rate is currently at 100 per cent.
The measures being applied to control the disease have been quarantine, movement control within China, screening and zoning. A vaccination programme has targeted 8,060 sheep/goats, 6,141 cows and 305 pigs.
