Six New Outbreaks of PRRS in Myanmar

MYANMAR - There have been six new outbreaks of porcine reproductive respiratory syndrome (PRRS) in two regions in the centre of the country.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No. 1 dated 29 July to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report described six outbreaks of PRRS on farms, starting between 6 April and 11 May in the divisions of Bago and Mandalay in the centre of the country. In total, 1,456 pigs were involved, all showed symptoms and 595 died.

The source of the infection is under investigation. The last PRRS outbreak in the country was in February this year in Mandalay division.
