Two-week quarantine for 30 Malaysian pig farms caught using growth enhancer
MALAYSIA - Thirty pig farms were placed under two weeks quarantine today after the animals were found to have high levels of banned growth enhancer beta agonist.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said his Ministry would seek the help of the police and the Veterinary Services Department to prevent the farmers from smuggling the pigs out for slaughter at unlicensed abattoirs during the quarantine.
The errant farms in Malacca, Selangor, Perak and Penang can slaughter their pigs only after they have been certified beta agonist-free. The two-week quarantine will cost the farmers between RM10,000 and RM100,000, depending on the number of pigs they rear.
